Carrboro Art Walk6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
We will be occupying the second Friday Carrboro Art Walk on February 10th! At the present moment, we are wide open as far as artists/displays and are currently exploring several venues, as well as working with other artistic groups in our larger community. We need art and people who want to show off their art! We will be having music, courtesy of Jil and Beat Report, but we’d love to have other musicians or performance art as well. Several people have mentioned having friends or art collectives set up “installations.” If any of this sounds like fun to you, or you have other ideas, please contact David Maliken.

Occupy 4 Prisoners National Day of Action! @ Durham County Jail5:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Please come join us to show solidarity with North Carolina prisoners & others protesting a broken, unjust, and inequitable prison system!
5:30 pm – 6:30 pm Noise Demonstration and Community Speak Out
In front of Durham County Jail (219 South Mangum Street, Durham, NC 27701)
6:30 pm – 9 pm Food and Fellowship : Continuing the Conversation
At the Stanford L. Warren Library (1201 Fayetteville Street Durham, North Carolina 27707)We support the following points of unity from the call to action from Occupy Oakland:
1. Abolishing unjust sentences, such as the Death Penalty, Life Without the Possibility of Parole, Three Strikes, Juvenile Life Without Parole, and the practice of trying children as adults.2. Standing in solidarity with movements initiated by prisoners and taking action to support prisoner demands, including the Georgia Prison Strike and the Pelican Bay/California Prisoners Hunger Strikes.
3. Freeing political prisoners, such as Mumia Abu-Jamal, Leonard Peltier, Lynne Stewart, Bradley Manning and Romaine “Chip” Fitzgerald, a Black Panther Party member incarcerated since 1969.
4. Demanding an end to the repression of activists, specifically the targeting of African Americans and those with histories of incarceration, such as Khali in Occupy Oakland, who could now face a life sentence on trumped-up charges, and many others falsely charged after exercising their First Amendment rights.
5. Demanding an end to the brutality of the current system, including the torture of those who have lived for many years in Secured Housing Units (SHUs) or in solitary confinement.
6. Demanding that our tax money spent on isolating, harming and killing prisoners, instead be invested in improving the quality of life for all and be spent on education, housing, health care, mental health care and other human services which contribute to the public good.

In addition, there are ongoing struggles in North Carolina both from inside and out of jails, prisons, and detention centers; like the current prisoners’ hunger strike at Foothills Prison in Morganton (http://tiny.cc/morganton) and the battle against deportations and criminalization of undocumented youth (http://tiny.cc/yanelli).

Spirit House NC presents Collective Sun: Reshape the Mo(u)rning, part performance, part art exhibit, and part audio installation. It shares stories of resilience and hope, and reminds us to love one another until we can all be whole. Through Collective Sun, families of color gain a voice to proactively address the impact of the prison industrial complex, creating a platform where art and culture become the means for solution-oriented, civic engagement in local/regional political actions.

Capture the Flag! @ The People's Plaza6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Occupy Durham invites one and all to THE CAPTURE THE FLAG GAME OF YOUR LIFE! at the People’s Plaza!
Are you burnt out from Occupy? Are the GA’s and all of your working-group commitments choking every last second of free time you have out of your week? Are you asking yourself, “How much longer can I do this”?
Instead of pulling your hair out, deleting all of the email threads from your inbox, leaving Occupy, or any combination of the above- why not take a little time to have * FUN * with your fellow
Occupiers and play a game of capture the flag?! ☺Capture the flag is the perfect game for us! Here are some reasons why:
1. We are going to visibly use Durham’s downtown public space for the first time since the last rainy Really, Really Free Market.
2. You will be randomly assigned to teams so you can actually meet NEW people!
3. We will be inviting occupiers from Raleigh AND Chapel Hill, so we will be meeting MORE occupiers from right around the way.
4. We have war paint. This will be intense. No child’s play here.
5. We will go out for dinner/drinks/merry-making afterwards. In conclusion- You should come play capture the flag. You really, really should. If you’re on the fence, you should watch the inspirational music video below
